This is qnetmon 0.71alpha, alpha because it is almost untested yet, but nevertheless it should already work fine. qnetmon is free software according to the GNU General Public License. qnetmon is a program similar to for instance netmon for windows, it displays the active users in a windows- or samba-network and provides a interface to the command line tools of the smb- and sambapackages. That's why it requires a working samba-installation, this means: smbclient, smbmount, talk, ping, telnet, rlogin should work, the smbd- and the nmbd-deamons should be running, and support for the smbfs must be compiled into the kernel, but just try the program out. Until now I tested it with samba 1.9.17p2 and samba 1.9.15. It is compiled with gcc 2.7.2.1, libc 5.4.33, libg++ 27.2.8 and Qt 1.33 on linux 2.0.33, but it should work with older versions, too. INSTALLING: Copy the binary qnetmon in a directory, which is in your path, maybe /usr/X11/bin and the file qnetmonrc either to /etc or in your home-directory (no leading point !). Edit qnetmonrc to suit your configuration, therefor comments are included. If the stuff, which is printed by qnetmon to the console is annoying to you, start qnetmon with: qnetmon >/dev/null & This should help. COMPILING: Change to the directory, where you installed qnetmon and enter make, then it should compile, the binary will be created in the directory qnetmon.
